As we continue with Honor Pastors’ Month, let's express appreciation and gratitude to our pastors in tangible ways.
By Julie Teo
Pastors are precious people who God has placed in our lives. Honoring them is a way to show our gratitude for their selfless service. If you haven’t shown appreciation to your pastors, how about starting now?
1 Thessalonians 5:11 tells us this: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
What can we do to build up our pastors? The possibilities are endless! Here are some ways we can show them our love and support.
Love through prayer
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peacefully and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” - 1 Timothy 2:1-2
One thing’s for sure, pastors need our prayers! It is one of the most powerful things we can do for them – a weapon to shield them from the attacks of the enemy.
When our pastors know they and their families are in our prayers, it provides great moral support to know that we’ve got them covered.
Here are some prayer pointers to get us started.
Personal
To have a strong spiritual walk with God
To trust that God will provide for all their needs
To have good health
Family
To have strong family relationships
To see the salvation of their loved ones
God’s protection over their families
Ministry
To shepherd with integrity of heart and skillful hands
To lead with wisdom and anointing
To see breakthroughs in their ministry
Acts of love
Besides praying, here are some other ways we can show love and support.
Words of encouragement
Whether it’s written or spoken, words of encouragement can mean the world to them.
Share a praise report when you see them
Give them a shout-out on social media
Send them a hand-written note or card on any day, not just on their birthday
Gifts
Big or small, a gift at any time can touch their hearts.
Bouquet of flowers
Gift cards/vouchers to their favorite restaurants or shops
A session to take professional family photos
A session for a manicure/pedicure/facial/massage
Health foods and supplements
Tickets for the family to see a show or event
A staycation
A book they’ve been wanting to read
Acts of service
Actions can speak louder than words!
Offer a service that you can do well like fixing things around the house, helping to solve IT problems, or providing professional advice
Invite them and their families over for a meal
Treat them to a meal at their favorite restaurant
Arrange for a meal to be delivered to their home (make sure it’s family-size!)
Invite their kids to your home so they can have a date night with their spouse
Appreciating our pastors should be an on-going gesture. Let's start by blessing them during Honor Pastors' Month!
